Who Is Robben Island?

In Chirundu we were playing a game with everyone called "30 seconds". There is a card with names of 5 things or people and you have to describe the thing to your team without saying the name. If they guess it right, you move ahead on a board. It was made in South Africa- and has names of famous cricketers and rugby players in addition to things like “Beverly Hills” and “The Big Apple”(Interesting how US culture is pervasive in South African board games…).

It was Kean’s turn and he was going through the names and was visibly confused with a few of them. After his time ran out, we had gotten a few points against the other teams when Kean said something that will follow him forever as a white African:

“I knew most of the names except one or two. Who is Robben Island?”

(The island off of Cape Town that Nelson Mandela was imprisoned on for nearly 27 years...)
